Vodafone
– History
The
Vodafone Group Plc provides a full range of mobile telecommunications
services, including voice and data communications. Vodafone
has equity interests in 28 countries and Partner Networks
in a further 8 countries with almost all the Group's mobile
subsidiaries operating principally under the brand name 'Vodafone'.
When
did it all begin?
On
1st January 1985 they made the UK's first mobile call. This
call was to mark the launch of the mobile industry and to
transform the communications world. They have a customer base
of over 100 million and interests in network operators across
28 countries.
Why
are Vodafone so popular as a UK network?
- Their
vision - is to be the world's mobile communications leader,
enriching customers' lives, helping individuals, businesses
and communities to be more connected in a mobile world
-
Investment - they continue to channel massive investment
(currently £10 million per week) into building a network
which allows you to make more calls, from more places and
remain assured that the quality and reliability of their
service is second to none
-
Value for money - in the last 3 years, they have reduced
costs over 5 times, which equates to a typical reduction
of over 50% for their customers
-
Customer service - from the provision of coverage and capacity,
to call handling and billing, they remain focused on maintaining
a high level of customer service
The
figures are amazing - 1 in 100 people in the world own a Vodafone
mobile phone!
- 50
million calls per day
- 10
million text messages per day
- More
than 1000 data calls per minute

Vodafone continue to serve over 12 million UK customers.
So,
where are they going?
- They
are entering new and uncharted territory. In the near future,
you will see next generation technology become widely available
- They
are determined to remain the leading innovator in the field
of mobile communications
-
Vodafone is currently developing it’s 3G (third generation)
network following the purchase of Licence B in April 2000
in the UK
- 3G
technology will enable Vodafone to offer even more advanced
mobile services, for example faster, enhanced Internet Access
and the ability to make mobile video calls
So,
with these technologies becoming ever more complex, Vodafone
is developing new service ranges that allow customers to access
the services they want, without needing to understand, or
see, the technology that enables them to do so.
