Legislation
governing the use of mobile phones in a motor vehicle
This new legislation has received tremendous support and should
be considered an excellent contribution to road safety –
as David Jamieson (Roads Safety Minister) quoted “Missing
a call won’t kill you - an accident quite possibly could!!!”
All it takes to be involved in an accident, which could be
fatal, is a split second of inattentiveness. Study has proven
that the use of a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving multiples
your likelihood of being involved in an accident by 4 times.
You cannot concentrate fully on driving whilst you are holding
a mobile phone to your ear and taking part in a conversation
which may be long or involved – or even worse trying
to read and respond to a text message.
The legislation does allow you to use a mobile phone that
is used hands free by Bluetooth™
technology or by the use
of a fitted hands free car kit.
